The Green Debate
So there’s this debate going on all over the world about if the scientists were, or are, right about global warming. And if they are then going green is the right thing to do. So if they’re wrong does that mean being green is pointless? No, it means who cares whether or not the science community is right or wrong, and be responsible.
The entire be greener campaign should have started eons ago, back when we disgusting humans started dumping our trash everywhere. But no, instead like everything else we wait until it’s too late. I guarantee you that there isn’t a place, at least in the United States, that doesn’t have someone’s trash laying around. And how did we get this way? Because we are lazy, period. Instead of taking the extra two seconds to walk our lazy asses to the trash can we just pitch our trash anywhere. And I can’t say I’m any better, I don’t throw garbage around, but I smoke, and I’ve pitched those butts anywhere and everywhere. And according to the statistics I’m part of the #1 most littered item in America, that’s awesome, I should give myself a huge pat on the back. Yes, I’m being sarcastic, I’m not proud to know that it will literally take decades for the trash from my bad habit to degrade. And not only that, but the crap that’s in the filter, and the tobacco, could and does poison the ground it’s dropped on, leading to our water, livestock, fruits and vegetables, you name it. And this is just one area I’m talking about, it doesn’t have anything to do with global warming, it has to do with us being responsible.
And we should be green just for the simple fact that this is the only home we’ve got, if we screw it up so bad that it can’t be fixed where will we go? Plan on living on Mars? Or the Moon? That’s not gonna happen in my lifetime, I’m pretty sure about that.
I haven’t checked the statistics on this, but our massive need of consumption has also led to a lot of unnecessary trash as well. Take a minute and think about how much junk you buy everyday, and then think about what you’ve thrown away. I’ll recap mine from today up to 5:00pm; Two 1 liters of Diet Mountain Dew, 1 pack of Pall Mall Orange 100′s, 1 receipt of purchase. Well I’ve already smoked 10 cigarettes so there’s 10 butts, I’m just about done with my second Dew so that’s 2 plastic bottles, and I don’t care about the receipt, that was in the trash almost immediately. And this is pretty much a 5x a week thing for me, because this is what I get everyday before I get to work. So do the math, just my daily dose of consumption amounts to a lot of trash, now multiply that by 6.8 billion and there’s what I would call an average amount of trash every human on the planet makes every week. That alone should make anyone’s eyes bigger because it’s disgusting.
So stop the debate about whether or not there is such a thing as global warming, and start taking responsibility for your actions, be green for the sake of not being a pig. But you know what? It’s still not going to happen, because again, we’re lazy, and the debate will go on forever, because that’s just how we are.
