Internet Marketing 101

Apr 27, 10 Internet Marketing 101

Since I am somewhat knowledgable in this field, as well as other computer related subjects, I thought that maybe I should start doing some tutorials to help other people out who may be just starting. So for the first one I’m just going to talk about how you can increase your traffic by just using a few simple sources that will amount to about 15 minutes of actual work per post. Now these are just a few that I use, one’s that I’ve actually seen traffic come from, there are many others out there but these are what have worked for me. So let’s begin;

First and foremost I would highly recommend setting up a Google Analytics account, with this you can track everything about your site, including where your visitors came from, what posts and pages they’re staying on, and how much time they’re spending on your site as well. There are a lot more options available as well, but as a beginner these are really all you need to worry about for the time being.

Next are a couple of no brainers really, their massive amount of influence on our daily lives as well as the web have literally taken the internet marketing world by storm. Twitter and Facebook. Twitter is especially good if you combine it with bit.ly, a web address shortener that allows you to track clicks from twitter as well. By combining bit.ly with Twitter you can tweet your newest post with a link via bit.ly allowing you to actually type out the full title of your given article. This with the combined tracking via bit.ly will show you just how many people on Twitter clicked your link to read your article. Next you’ve got Facebook, another powerful platform to market out your articles, and there are actually 2 ways you can utilize Facebook. One is by doing what you normally do, but when you do write a new article, post it in your news feed for all your friends to see. What’s nice about this in Facebook is that it will not only show a picture from your article but also a short synopsis as well, which if written right will always bring in visitors to read it. And the second is by setting up a Fan Page. Unfortunately Facebook hasn’t made this option that easy to find, in order to get to it you have to search in the top most box for Facebook Pages, then by clicking on it you’ll see My Pages in the upper left hand side, clicking this will then lead you to where you’ll setup your own fan page for your website. Not only can you keep your visitors up to date with everything on your site, but you can also gain a lot more people that aren’t just tied to your friends, leading to a lot of traffic if your content is good enough.

And lastly for this tutorial will be another article submission website called Propeller, Propeller is a lot like Digg, but anybody’s article can hit the top of the list. There have been days where I’ll get 500 – 1000 hits just from Propeller, which for a new site is pretty darn good, and there isn’t even much work involved. You submit the link to your article, Propeller tries to find if it’s already been submitted, then shows you a synopsis of said article, you approve it, and voila, it’s posted for everyone to see.

Well I think that’s about it for this first try at letting others know a little bit about getting their own material out there to the world. If you have any questions, or comments, please feel free to ask away, I’ll try my best to answer to the best of my ability.
