Independence Day

Jul 04, 10 Independence Day

It seems very appropriate that the fourth days post would be on Independence Day! Or common sense as it would be the 4th of whatever month I did this, but anywho, on with my post. It has seemed to me for many years now, that on this day, it is no longer a holiday we celebrate our independence from England, but a glorified party day.

Ever since Indiana went the way of many other states and have allowed the purchase and use of extreme fireworks by the common man, everyone has gone flippin crazy. This year was no exception, people are still without jobs, and homes are still being foreclosed, yet somehow people still manage to spend hundreds, if not thousands on stupid explosives. I have no doubt that most of these idiots put them on their credit cards with 28% interest. It really just boggles my mind, everyday I hear people have no money, from customers at my job, and from the customers at Walmart that Samaree deals with. Yet they still have money to blow stuff up!

And I bet a vast majority of these people don’t even know what they’re celebrating, they just get drunk off their asses and have an excuse to light shit on fire and blow shit up, that’s it, plain and simple. This holiday like many others, Christmas being #1 in my book, is no longer about the celebration of the holiday, but a celebration of consumerism and how much we can spend on more crap we don’t need. Now don’t get me wrong, I love fireworks, I don’t buy them, but I’ll watch other peoples hard earned cash go up in smoke. Samaree & I always sit outside on the night of July 4th and watch as the neighborhood shoots off a vast display of colors and explosions, but we’re in a middle class neighborhood, so I know these people don’t have excess money.

I guess I’m in the minority, because I just don’t understand mankind anymore…
