Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Apr 16, 10 Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Call of Duty 2 was the first time I tried this series, and it quickly became one of my favorites. So much so that I’d play them over and over, and now with the latest release Infinity Ward has made it even more addicting.

I didn’t get the chance to play World at War, or even Modern Warfare 1, but with all my friends and family telling me how great this game was I just had to buy it. So I headed down to Gamestop and shelled out $49.99 for a used copy of the game for the Playstation 3.

Popping it in for the first time I automatically know I have no idea what the story is about because it tells you that it picks up exactly where the first one ended. This ends up not being that big of a deal because the dialog at the beginning of the missions explains enough that if you haven’t played the first one, this storyline still flows on its own. I selected normal mode for my first play through as I didn’t know how difficult it would be and I get frustrated quickly if I die a lot. This turned out to be a wise decision on my part, because even though many of the missions/levels are doable, even on normal mode they can be a bit difficult. The artificial intelligence in this iteration of Call of Duty seems to be spot on, if you’re out in the open the enemy starts firing on you almost immediately, and if you’re hiding behind something, they still know where you are and will throw grenades at you. And this one is also different to me because the terrain changes so much that it gives you a good mix of strategy, from blizzard conditions and rural neighborhoods, to a cramped and closely packed housing district in the middle east. The campaign side of the game alone was worth the cost to me, it’s not difficult enough that I don’t want to play it, but not easy enough that I never die and instead have to think of a different strategy for whatever situation I’m in.

Besides the campaign there’s also a Special-Ops Mode, one which I have yet to try but do know what it’s about. They’re modifications of some of the campaign levels but beefed up, as well as completely new levels too. This mode was made for co-op play either in splitscreen or via online, but you can play it alone if you wish to. Basically a second campaign to play, and I’ve heard that it will take as long, or longer to complete spec-ops as it did to complete the normal campaign.

And then there’s multiplayer, something that I normally don’t enjoy but figured I’d try because that’s what everyone is talking about. This was also the first game I tried out on the Playstation Network as I’ve only had my system for about a month now. And I have to say, that even though I’m not really good, and I die, a lot, multiplayer is awesome! You start out at level 1 and work towards level 70, gaining levels is aquired through kills using different guns, multiple kills, headshots and I’m sure other ways I’m not aware of. Also with each advancing level you unlike new guns, attachments, titles, insignias and more. And again, like spec-ops, is like having another campaign or game to play through.

So, if you’re like me and don’t want to shell out $50 – $60 everytime a cool game comes out, I suggest just this once you do. I look at it as I paid $20 per feature of the game, even though I only paid $50, but you get the point. This will be a game I’ll continue to play for quite some time and well worth the money in my opinion.
